Tomaso Bugoni (venice? – 1767), Portrait Of A Girl With A Hat
Tomaso Bugoni (Venice? – 1767)
Portrait of a Young Girl with a Hat
Pastel on paper, 40 x 32 cm
The work in question is a portrait of a young girl executed in pastel on paper by the Venetian artist Tomaso Bugoni, circa the second half of the 18th century. The young woman is depicted in a half-length portrait, with her head turned to one side and her gaze directed downward; a graceful smile plays on her lips. She is dressed in the fashion of the time, wearing a yellow-toned dress contrasted by blue trim, which ends with a bow on both shoulders. Flowers on her chest complete the dress’s decoration. The artist pays close attention to color combinations: in fact, the woman wears a hat that echoes the same shades as her dress. Her hair is also adorned with flowers of various colors, among which pink stands out, perfectly matching the color of the subject’s cheeks.
