Early 17th-century Spanish or Flemish school; portrait of a man wearing a large lace ruff, typical of the European elite of that period, and a doublet richly embroidered with gold thread; he carries a sword, a symbol of nobility or military rank.
Latin inscription in the upper right: “He died at the age of … in the year of our Lord 162.”
A coat of arms in the upper left depicts a heraldic shield surrounded by a collar of an order or decoration.
In good condition, in its natural state; would benefit from a thorough cleaning; previous restorations; original canvas.
