Pair Of French Empire-era Cassolettes

A pair of finely chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze cassolettes from the French Empire period, dating from the early 19th century.

These elegant cassolettes are adorned with finely chased classical friezes depicting mythological figures, horses, and chariots, in the style of the Napoleonic Empire. The square bases are decorated with medallions featuring relief portraits and ring handles held in place by lion heads, and rest on feet shaped like lion paws.

Their harmonious proportions, mercury gilding, and the finesse of their chiseling exemplify the craftsmanship of French bronze artists of the period.
