This pair of 19th-century Aubusson tapestry door hangings is a remarkable example of hunting-inspired decor, blending aristocratic elegance with rich ornamentation.

A superb pair of tapestry door hangings from the Aubusson Manufactory, dating from the 19th century, of large dimensions (290 × 132 cm each). Each panel features a particularly refined vertical composition, framed by a wide border simulating a carved frame, embellished with vine scrolls, foliage, and small red berries that enliven the overall design.

In the center unfolds an impressive hunting trophy, consisting of pheasants, partridges, a hare, game birds, and crossed rifles, suspended amid an abundant floral decoration in autumnal tones. At the base, a delicate light blue ribbon tied in a bow adds a touch of lightness and elegance to this richly balanced composition.

The color palette, dominated by browns, ochres, beiges, deep reds, and faded greens, lends the piece a warm and noble atmosphere, characteristic of the interiors of 19th-century bourgeois mansions and castles. The nuanced ivory background perfectly highlights the motifs, while the mahogany-brown frame enhances the sense of depth.

These curtains were designed to adorn large interior openings while improving the insulation of the rooms. Their hunting-themed design evokes the decorative arts prized during the Second Empire and the late 19th century, in the tradition of prestigious French manufacturers.
