Masao Ido was born in 1945 in Beipiao, in northeastern China. After his family returned to their hometown of Kyoto in 1960, he began his artistic career under the guidance of Koho Yoshida, studying color, and then turned to contemporary printmaking in 1972. Under the tutelage of Shigechika Ohtsubo, Masao Ido refined his mastery of woodblock printing. He has exhibited his works around the world. His contemporary woodblock prints are found in numerous permanent collections, notably at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
