Indonesia, Timor Island, early 20th century, a rare and superb oblong wooden chalk box (for betel), intricately carved with a relief design depicting three lizards and a geometric pattern. The lid is decorated with a bird, carved in the round and resting on a circle with geometric decoration. Beautiful patina from use.
