French School, Landing At The Port Of Marseille (circa 1900)
French School
Disembarking at the port of Marseille
Circa 1900
Terracotta with a bronze-like patina
H. 62 cm
A work from the Belle Époque depicting an elegant woman descending a small staircase toward the shore, connected to a small boat. One might think it is a small boat transporting passengers from a ship or aocean liner to the mainland. I discovered this interesting sculpture in Marseille, and I am convinced it is the workof a Marseille-based sculptor, depicting the port of Marseille. It is worth noting that the elegant woman is wearing a Provençal shawl.
