Early 18th-century Engraving By Louis Desplaces, After A Work By Jean Jouvenet
Large antique engraving depicting Christ Healing the Sick, based on a composition by Jean Jouvenet (1644–1717), engraved by Louis Desplaces (1682–1739).
This print depicts an episode from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew (Chapter XIV), in which the sick are healed by touching the hem of Christ’s garment. The engraving bears the original inscriptions: “J. Jouvenet pinx.,” “L. Desplaces sculp.”
The original painting is located in the Church of the Carthusians in Paris.
Original gilded wood frame.
