Louis XV Provençal Walnut Wardrobe – 18th Century – Gendarme's Hat Top. This straight Louis XV period wardrobe is crafted from solid walnut and topped with an elegant gendarme's hat cornice. It opens with two large, molded and carved doors decorated in the Rococo style, resting on cabriole legs connected by a finely crafted, shaped stretcher. The front is straight (not curved), typical of provincial furniture from the South of France in the 18th century. The panels are heavily molded, and the carving is generous and well-balanced. The interior is original softwood with shelves. The hardware and locks are original. A regional piece from the South of France, circa 1760–1780.
