Antique Painting Venetian School Oil On Canvas Landscape XVIII Century

Oil on canvas. Venetian school, first half of the 18th century. The landscape, executed with skill, is reminiscent of the style of Bartolomeo Pedon (1665–1732), one of the most interesting landscape painters of the Venetian Baroque period. Rich in vegetation, the landscape frames a path in the center that leads from the woods toward the wide valley, where scattered farmhouses and a river in the distance can be seen; the landscape fades into bluish hues that blend into the sky. On the path in the foreground, several figures are moving: a woman carrying a jug on her head (a small pool of water can be glimpsed to the left) is conversing with a shepherdess sitting and resting, while her sheep graze nearby, and other shepherds pass along the path. The details of the vegetation, as well as those of the buildings, are meticulously rendered. The painting is set in a contemporary wooden frame, which was regilded in the early 1900s.
