Antique Painting Disciple Of Giacomo Francesco Cipper XVIII Century

In terms of both style and subject matter, the painting is reminiscent of the work of Giacomo Francesco Cipper, known as “il Todeschini,” an artist of Austrian origin who made his name in Milan.
He specialized in market scenes, outdoor gatherings, card players, and scenes of humble daily life, rendered with playful caricature and a focus on comic effect.
As in this work, which depicts a commoner intent on drinking wine: despite the poverty evident in his clothes, the man appears cheerful and laughing—perhaps due to excessive drinking—representing not desolation but the vitality and enjoyment of daily life, however meager.
The painting has been restored and re-stretched and features, on the reverse side of the stretcher, a small label with details of the restoration work performed.
It is presented in a refurbished antique frame.
