Bronze Sculpture With A Brown And Gold Patina – Scene From The Ramakien – Thailand, 20th Century
A large bronze sculpture with a brown-green patina, enhanced by rich gilded decorations, depicting a scene inspired by the Ramakien epic, the Thai version of the Ramayana.
The composition depicts a richly dressed princely figure, wearing a tall traditional crown, towering over a kneeling figure with the face of a demon (Yaksha), in a pose evoking a heroic episode or a battle scene. The costumes are rendered with remarkable finesse, covered with very abundant decoration imitating the embroidery and ornaments of Thai court attire.
The piece rests on an attached wooden base.
Presumably a 20th-century Thai work.
Very high-quality bronze, particularly heavy, indicating a solid cast.
