Wmf Neo-greek Centerpiece In Silver-plated Metal And Wedgwood-style Bisque, Circa 1900

Vase on a pedestal / period centerpiece, circa 1900, bearing the prestigious hallmark of the German manufacturer WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik).

This piece displays a Neo-Greek/Neo-Classical style characterized by great geometric and architectural purity. The inner rim of the bowl is engraved with a broad frieze of Greek motifs punctuated by rosettes. Two slender side handles rise in stylized acanthus volutes, giving the object an airy silhouette reminiscent of ancient vases.

The center of the bowl features a magnificent circular medallion in Wedgwood-style bisque porcelain, depicting a nymph and cherubs (Cupids) in relief within a woodland setting. The four-legged base, with its contrasting patina, provides a sturdy foundation and is richly adorned with Baroque acanthus leaves. A masterpiece of Belle Époque table silverware.
