Pair of solid silver and cut crystal salt shakers, 19th-century period. These beautiful salt shakers depict the allegory of Faithful Love: Cupids riding dogs, a symbol of fidelity. Original cobalt-blue cut-crystal glasses. The salt cellars are accompanied by fluted spoons, hallmarked with the Minerva symbol.
They bear the 2nd Rooster 1st Title hallmark (silver alloy hallmark for 950/1000 used from 1809 to 1819), the silversmith’s hallmark of Denis Garreau, who was a master silversmith in 1817, and the hallmark of the Silversmiths’ Association.
As the successor to the silversmith Mignerot, Denis Garreau was a Parisian silversmith specializing in tableware, particularly oil cruets. He had his workshop at 62 Rue du Temple. He had his hallmark engraved in 1817.
In very good condition, no damage, original glass cups intact.
