Large Imari Porcelain Bowl With Gilded Bronze Mounts
Large Imari porcelain bowl on a foot. 18th-century China. Round and hollow-bodied with a foot, this porcelain bowl features a particularly refined decoration in the traditional Imari color palette. The polychrome decoration consists of underglaze blue, iron red, and rich gold highlights. It depicts numerous flowers—primarily peonies and plum blossoms, among others—as well as leafy scrollwork. This bowl is adorned with openwork, leaf-motif mounts in chiseled and gilded bronze in the mid-19th-century Louis XV style. The mounts consist of a base, handles, and a rim. The mounts feature scrollwork, seeds, foliage, flowers, pompons, and drapery—all very finely chiseled. The gilding is original. Note a small, barely visible crack in the bowl.
