The Bustling Beach And The Beach Huts. Watercolor And Gouache By Paul Perraudin (1907–1993)
Artist: Paul Parraudin
The lively beach and the beach huts. This is the title I’ve given to this magnificent and lively
watercolor and gouache by the talented artist Paul Perraudin
Signed and dated in the lower right corner: Perraudin 1965
He was born in 1907 and died in 1993.
He was a painter of lively compositions, genre scenes, figures, portraits,
landscapes, and seascapes; a gouache painter, watercolorist, draftsman, engraver,
and illustrator. He was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He taught
drawing at the high school in Évreux. He had been an official painter for the Navy since 1942.
He participated in group exhibitions, notably in Paris at the Salons of French Artists,
the National Society of Fine Arts, and the Watercolor Society. He exhibited his works
in solo exhibitions, regularly in Paris: 197 at the Musée de la Marine;
1982 at the Musée Carnavalet, as well as in Moret and Fontainebleau. In 1966, a
retrospective exhibition of his work was organized in Brie-Comte-Robert; in 1998 in Paris,
at the Galerie des Orfèvres.
His paintings demonstrate a direct and confident technique. He favored watercolor.
In addition to his views of Venice, Normandy, Brittany, and Île aux Moines, he depicted
numerous scenes of Parisian life. He illustrated numerous books by authors such as Pierre Benoît,
Jules Romains, Marcel Aymé, Verlaine, and Maupassant...
Works are on display at the Carnavalet Museum.
Dimensions of the watercolor (viewable area): 39 cm x 26 cm.
With frame, without glass: 54 cm x 42 cm.
