Louis XV-style Cylindrical Lady's Desk (on Casters)
A charming ladies’ cylindrical desk (or slanting desk with a mechanical mechanism) made of rosewood and mahogany veneer, originally mounted or retrofitted with small, discreet brass casters to make it easier to move.
The Cylinder and Writing Desk: The quarter-circle cylindrical flap slides upward to reveal a workspace featuring a sliding tray lined with brown leather and embossed with a fine gold pattern. The interior (the compartment) features small niches and three curved drawers made of wood veneer.
The Upper Shelf: Topped by a shelf that opens to reveal three small, aligned drawers, ideal for writing accessories.
The Marquetry: The front, sides, and cylinder are decorated with exquisite geometric friezes in a butterfly-wing pattern, highlighted by contrasting wooden fillets.
Ornamentation: Delicate gilded and chiseled bronze trim, including lock plates adorned with ribbon bows or volutes, as well as chiseled pull knobs.
Base: It rests on four curved Louis XV-style legs, ending in gilded bronze feet, which in this case are fitted with casters.
