Ibeji Twins
A superb pair of Ibeji twin figures, richly adorned with necklaces and bracelets made of polychrome glass beads. Belonging to the famous Shaki style, recognizable by the elegant tiered headdress crowning the figures, these sculptures embody all the artistic vitality of the Oyo region. They bear witness to the fervor of domestic cults dedicated to commemorating the mythical twins, Taiwo and Kehinde.
The geometric rendering of the faces, with distinctly Cubist accents, is combined with a remarkable state of preservation. These works, deeply rooted in their ritual history, exude an exceptional formal modernity whose sculptural power will resonate strikingly within a contemporary interior.
