Ball-shaped Vase With A Wavy Neck, Made Of Frosted Blown Glass With A Gold Rim, Circa 1890–1910
Hand-blown glass vase, low spherical shape with a ruffled neck/corolla, typical of Art Nouveau and Belle Époque glassware. It is also known as a “handkerchief vase.”
Details
- Material: Free-blown glass, slightly frosted/satin-finished by an acid bath. Thin walls; air bubbles may be present.
- Decoration: Highly undulating neck with 6 to 8 points, accented with gold leaf applied with a brush along the rim. The gold is worn in places, which is normal and confirms the piece’s age.
- Manufacturing: Mouth-blown, rim shaped while hot using pliers. No mold. Flat, polished base.
- Attribution: A common design found at Legras, Mont Joye (St-Denis), Harrach, or Bohemian glassworks. Unsigned, making precise attribution difficult, but the style is 100% Legras / Mont Joye.
