Art Nouveau Polychrome Enameled Crystal Vase From The Baccarat Crystalworks, Decorated With Pop
- Art Nouveau period naturalist vase, square in shape, polychrome enameled in double-layered crystal, acid-etched by Baccarat.
The vase is decorated with foliage, stems, buds, and wild poppy flowers on a light, frosted background.
- The neck is powdered, and the decoration is enhanced with 24-karat gold, applied freehand with a brush.
- Double-layered crystal is made of two layers of crystal, which, once acid-etched, creates a two-tone enameled decoration.
- Unsigned, as it predates 1936, the year Baccarat began signing its creations with the crystalworks' acid-etched logo.
This logo depicts a stemmed glass on the left, a decanter in the center, and a tumbler on the right, with the word "Baccarat" on the top of the decanter and "France" below it in a rounded shape.
- The design of this vase is listed with various floral decorations from the Art Nouveau period in the late 19th-century catalog of the Baccarat crystalworks.
- Previously, there was a paper label bearing the Baccarat crystalworks logo affixed or a molded signature on the molded crystal pieces coming out of their workshops, or an incised signature on the bronze mounts that adorned the crystal objects.
- The Baccarat crystalworks is located in the town of Baccarat in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department (54) in the Lorraine region. Art Nouveau period, circa 1890-1910.
