- Polychrome earthenware planter from the GIEN factory with low relief and molded decorations of a Greek mythological scene: - The legend of Dionysus (Bacchus) God of wine and vegetation. - This Greek god had the bacchantes and satyrs as a retinue. - On one side a relief decoration representing Dionysus lying under a trellis of vine leaves in the company of a small satyr, on the other side, facing the lying Dionysus another satyr blows into a conch. - Side grips made up of ram's heads and floral scrolls in relief, on the base on the front stands out a protruding feline head. - This scene with bas-reliefs and molded decorations from Greek mythology is made in shades of blue on a blue background. - Two dark brown friezes are present, one on the edge of the neck, the other on the bottom of the planter, both bas-reliefs are signed lower right in hollow in the paste J.Regnier. - Signed with the stamp of the GIEN earthenware factory, mark with the castle on the ribbon and number 58 in blue. - Referenced in the GIEN book: Faïence de GIEN Michèle-Cécile Gillard in the Massin edition page 86.
