Louis XVI-style Gilded Bronze Clock With Lion-muzzle Cups By Gorini, Napoleon III Period, 19th Century
Louis XVI clock in finely chased gilded bronze, decorated with a decorative cup or basin on top, an enameled dial signed “Gorini* Frères” in Poitiers, framed on the sides by lion muzzles holding rings of drapery; base chiseled with a latticework pattern, a garland of foliage, and scrollwork, in the style of the bronze artist Robert Osmond (1711–1789), from the Napoleon III period, 19th century.
This clock is in very good condition and is of remarkable quality. We have its pendulum; the movement is in working order (may need servicing).
This model is a variation on a clock created by the bronze artist Robert Osmond and referenced in Pierre Kjellberg’s encyclopedia *Encyclopédie de La Pendule Française*, Paris 1997, p. 189.
Please note: slight soiling on the gilding, tiny scratches, and signs of age; see photos.
* The Gorini frères firm (silversmiths, jewelers, and clockmakers) was active in Poitiers throughout the second half of the 19th century; they were most likely clock dealers rather than manufacturers. (See the French government’s culture website)
