Augusto Gheduzzi – Painting On Canvas, “female Nude In The Sculptor’s Studio,” Dated
Artist: Augusto Gheduzzi
An elegant oil painting on canvas by the Italian painterAugusto Gheduzzi (1883–1969), signed and dated 1924 in the lower left corner, andbelonging to the most prolific period of his figurative work. The work depicts a young, completely nude modelinside a sculptor’s studio. The woman, captured in thenatural act of gathering her hair, is set within a setting rich insuggestive elements: large classical statues, monumental drapery, workbenches, andthe light streaming through the large windows create a composition ofremarkable balance and depth.More than a simple study from life, the painting representsa reflection on the dialogue between painting and sculpture, between the vitality of thehuman body and the monumentality of classical form. The brushwork is confident andspontaneous, and the color palette of ochre, grays, and earth tones lends the work anintimate and contemplative atmosphere. In terms of execution, subject matter, and state of preservation, thispainting stands as one of the most interesting examples of the figurativework of Augusto Gheduzzi, an artist belonging to one of the most renownedfamilies of painters active between Bologna and Turin in the first half of the 20th century. The son of painter and set designer Ugo Gheduzzi, Augusto trained at the AccademiaAlbertina in Turin and, from a young age, collaborated on set designs for the TeatroRegio. His body of work includes landscapes, portraits, genre scenes, andfigures, distinguished by their rigorous use of perspective and sensitivityto light.
