19 Th Century Umbrella, Circa 1850, Silk, Excellent Condition
A charming umbrella from the mid-19th century. The silk and original fringes have been preserved, and the lining has been replaced. It is therefore in perfect condition and can easily be used today.
The umbrella features two ingenious mechanisms typical of the period:
- An upper metal ring that allows the silk canopy to be tilted once open.
- A central ring that allows the parasol to befolded in half, making it easier to store or carry into a horse-drawn carriage.
It measures 13,78 inches long when closed and folded and is approximately 19,68 inches in diameter when open.
France, circa 1850.
