Renaissance bronze Christ – Early 16th century, Gothic, High Renaissance

Rare Renaissance-era bronze Christ, dating from the early 16th century, during the reign of Francis I.

This sculpture, cast in solid bronze, displays all the stylistic characteristics typical of this period. Christ is depicted wearing a short perizonium, with no visible knot, and with his feet crossed. The anatomy is particularly well-rendered, marked by prominent ribs and finely modeled musculature. The bearded head is framed by long hair falling over the shoulders, conveying an expression of gravity and serenity.

The piece is enhanced by a beautiful, deep brown, glossy antique patina that highlights the quality of the cast iron and the sculpture’s relief.

Dimensions: height: 15.2 cm, wingspan: 14.9 cm

A beautiful example of a Renaissance Christ, authentic and of fine quality, intended for both collectors of antique art and lovers of religious sculpture.
