Pair Of Carved And Gilded Altar Candlesticks, Regency Style
An elegant pair of large candlesticks made of richly carved and gilded wood, crafted in the style of French Regency designs.
Each candlestick rests on an imposing tripod base ending in lion’s paws, adorned with broad scrollwork, shells, and deeply carved acanthus leaves. The particularly slender shaft alternates between moldings, foliage motifs, and baluster elements before ending in a circular candle holder fitted with an iron tip designed to hold a candle.
The entire piece features beautiful antique gilding with a pleasing patina, highlighting the quality of the carving and the relief of the decoration.
These large candle holders were intended to adorn an altar or a chapel and today serve as remarkable decorative elements that would be well-suited to a classical interior, a castle, a historic home, or a grand fireplace.
