Refinished Beech Chair
Dimensions: H.; Seat H.; W.; D. (cm)
Paris, circa 1790
Chair resting on tapered, ring-mounted front legs; rear legs in a saber shape with chamfers. Molded rail, backrest re-drilled with a lattice pattern. Very fine craftsmanship in beech; the interiors of the rails are elegantly carved to lighten and reinforce the crossbars. This latter feature is characteristic of the work of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené and Georges Jacob.
Numerous examples from the Tuileries dating from the turbulent period of the Revolution are known to exist.
