An Empire-period Bronze Clock "urne"
A clock known as an “Urne” or “écusson”-shaped clock, made of bronze with a green and gold patina, topped with four pinecones and an armillary sphere. The white enamel dial is signed “Cornu à Paris,” and the movement is a string-wound mechanism. There is a small chip on the dial near the winding hole and some wear on the gilding, but the clock is in good condition.
This clock dates from the early 19th century, during the Empire period. The movement is functioning (hours and minutes) but does not chime. A similar model is listed on page 255 in the book *La pendule française* (Tardy) and on page 378 in the *Encyclopedia of the French Clock* (P. Kyellberg).
