Empire Pendulum Clock
Important Viennese table clock from the
Empire/Biedermeier period of the first half of the 19th century (1810–1830)
Featuring four dolphin-shaped supports carved from gilded wood that hold up the central barrel-shaped case. The dolphin motif is a classic element of the Neoclassical and Empire repertoire, symbolizing a connection to the sea, salvation, and good fortune, and was widely used in high-quality furnishings of the period.
The case is made of mahogany veneer, featuring dark, warm tones typical of the Biedermeier style. It is embellished with gilded bronze and chiseled brass appliqués, including the flamed top (crown), the laurel leaf tendrils above the dial, and the geometric corner appliqués on the base.
Original butterfly-style winding key.
