The scene depicts the Baptism of Christ in the River Jordan: Saint John the Baptist, on the right, lays his hand upon Christ's head as the dove of the Holy Spirit descends amid luminous clouds. Behind Saint John, an angel is partly visible, concealed by the Baptist's figure. In the background, a group of figures is gathered along the riverbank. In the foreground, a man, a woman and a child enliven the composition, arranged with a torsion and disposition of the bodies still recalling Mannerist conventions. The wooded landscape and warm palette complete a work attributable to the Flemish pictorial culture active in Italy during the seventeenth century.
