Six Solid Walnut Refectory Chairs. Friuli, 17th Century.
Six solid walnut refectory chairs. Friuli, 17th century.
46 x 37 x h 106 cm.
A set of six refectory chairs, entirely crafted from solid walnut, are attributed to 17th-century Friulian craftsmanship. The rectangular backrest, framed by square uprights, is connected to the seat by a carved crosspiece with a wavy, lobed profile. The same decorative solution is found on the front crosspieces under the seat. The lower crosspiece between the rear legs is shaped like a double scroll, a typical element of the region's folk carpentry. The seat is made of solid wood with a slightly rounded front profile. A direct comparison group is preserved at the Carnic Museum of Popular Arts "Michele Gortani" in Tolmezzo (Udine).
Condition report: Good overall condition, with signs of use and a period patina consistent with the age of the piece.
