Dated 1946, this still life is a work by the Alsatian painter Paul Sinniger (1892–1971), who was born and died in Sierentz. A railroad worker, painter and decorator at the Mulhouse-Riedisheim workshop, conductor of the Musique Concordia de Sierentz, and a local figure active in the Alsatian Resistance, he developed a sincere figurative style, attentive to the play of light and the harmony of colors. This bouquet captures the natural beauty of a freshly picked arrangement, where buds, emerging blossoms, and fully bloomed flowers coexist. The simplicity and transparency of the vase contribute to the luminous freshness of the composition, in which—one year after the end of the war—the poetry of simple things and spring renewal seems to be reborn.
