Gouache on paper, framed, under glass, depicting an abstract composition.

From this chaotic, mineral world, emerging from the depths of the earth, rays of light burst forth, illuminating here and there a ladder, a figure, a letter, a word... ; a whole secret world to discover and come to know, a world that does not reveal itself at first glance

BIOGRAPHY:
François OZENDA (1923–1976) was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, lithographer, and illustrator born in 1923 in Marseille
A marginal artist, he sold his paintings and drawings in cafés and restaurants and worked at night at friends’ homes or in makeshift rooms
Surrounded by a close-knit group of friends—the Chaves —Alphonse and Pierre—who provided him with lodging and exhibited his work, as well as the patrons and owner of Café La Régence, Ozenda created a multifaceted and inspired body of work in which he laid his soul bare
He exhibited in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (where he remained until his death): Galerie Alphonse Chave
In 1953, the gallery organized a solo exhibition for him, “A Strange World of Saints, Devils, and Beasts.” This exhibition was followed by others (1955, 1956, 1959, 1965, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1976)
Ozenda participated in the exhibition “Peinture-lumière,”  organized in Vallauris by André Verdet in 1963.
He died in 1976. After his death, retrospective exhibitions were dedicated to him in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and elsewhere...
