The painter Kerfily was born in 1948 in Bonneval; he lives and works in the Eure-et-Loir department.
After training as an artistic photographer, he turned to the visual arts and printmaking.
"A painter of sunlit landscapes, Kerfily pays tribute above all to Provence, Corsica, Italy, and the Luberon, and holds Brittany and the Greek islands in equal esteem, with a constant focus on color and light. The artist recreates an idyllic setting that lends itself to interplays of rhythm and color.
With small, variegated, and meticulously applied “pizzicato” brushstrokes, the foregrounds are rendered with a generous application of paint. The impulsive brushwork accentuates the vibrant colors and conveys the warmth and sunshine of the landscapes depicted. Color clings to this paint applied with a palette knife to the canvas in a single, fluid stroke. Kerfily plays with color contrasts and complementary hues, and once the pictorial values are enhanced, the reality of the subject is revealed a little more.
By stripping away all superfluous detail, the artist exalts reality and makes the canvas—that space of freedom—tangible. Inventing his own artistic language, he conveys an atmosphere, an impression, a state of mind. Kerfily sometimes presents us with highly graphic works featuring rigorous forms: “What I’m looking for is an image that’s compelling, powerful, and luminous—one that exudes a particular atmosphere, a mood,” he confides, adding: “to draw on my subjectivity to create new images, by revisiting places, objects, and characters, without hesitating to distort, disrupt, or question them.”

“As early as 1972, he exhibited his first works in Paris, then at the Museums of Modern Art in Bochum, Münster, and Trier, Germany.
From then on, Kerfily participated in various exhibitions and art fairs. Beginning in the 1980s, his paintings were permanently displayed in various galleries in France and abroad (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Westport, Connecticut, USA; Boston, USA...).
His paintings are included in numerous private collections in France and abroad, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, the U.S., Japan, and South Africa...etc."
