Hélène Martin (1912-2012), The Workers

Artist: Hélène Martin (1912-2012)
Hélène MARTIN (1912-2012), Workers, gouache, 47 x 25.5 cm. Signed lower left.

Born in 1912 in Marseille, Hélène Martin trained at the School of Fine Arts in the same city. She frequented the Marseille artistic community and befriended Pierre Ambrogiani and Antoine Ferrari. She paints landscapes of the Var and Marseilles with contrasting colors and angular shapes. Hélène Martin remains an atypical and unclassifiable artist who manages to create her own universe, magical and strange, fantastic and sometimes magical. The career of the artist and his creative passion was the subject of a fascinating documentary made in 1998.
