Portrait Of An Oriental Woman. Léonie Humbert-vignot. Lyon School.
Artist: Léonie Humbert-vignot
A small but magnificent portrait of a beautiful Eastern woman wearing a
hat made of peacock feathers and adorned with jewelry in a very Art Nouveau style.
She appears pensive, dreamy...
This portrait is the work of a well-known artist from the Lyon School.
Léonie HUMBERT-VIGNOT was born in Lyon in the 19th–20th centuries.
She studied under Alexandre Bonnardel and Edouard Toudouze at the
Lyon School of Fine Arts. She exhibited at the Lyon Salon starting in 1896; in 1901
she received a second medal, in 1903 a mention of honor, and in 1908, a first medal.
She also exhibited in Paris, starting in 1905, at the Salon des Artistes Français,
where she was awarded medals on several occasions.
Works are held at the Digne Museum.
Our painting is clearly signed in the upper left corner.
It is in good condition, mounted on a wooden panel; however, I note a tiny
crack on the right side that is practically invisible.
Small dimensions of the panel alone: 18 cm x 14 cm.
It is presented in a superb antique gilded wooden frame measuring 31 cm x 28 cm.
