18th-century Neapolitan Nativity Madonna In Terracotta, Wood And Silk
Antique female figure representing a Madonna from a Neapolitan nativity scene, made in Naples, Italy, during the 18th century. The head is made of polychrome-painted terracotta and fitted with glass eyes. The arms and legs are carved wood, also polychrome-painted, while the body consists of an iron wire structure wrapped with tow, following the traditional construction technique of Neapolitan nativity figures.
The figure retains its worn silk clothing, showing age-related wear, tears, losses and original patina. It stands on a marble base. A charming devotional and collectible piece, notable for its delicate expression and authentic materials.
