Small Marquetry Bookcase, Louis XVI Style – Early 20th Century
This small, glass-fronted Louis XVI-style bookcase, crafted from mahogany and rosewood marquetry, features an elegant silhouette resting on four tapered legs, giving it a slender and refined appearance. It is topped with a Carrara marble slab, white with veining and delicately smoothed along the edges, while its middle section is accented by a geometric herringbone frieze, characteristic of the neoclassical style. The front features two doors that are two-thirds glass, revealing an interior fitted with three adjustable shelves on a rack system, allowing the height to be adjusted according to the books or objects on display. The lower portion of the doors is adorned with a latticework marquetry design framed by mahogany and rosewood friezes, creating a subtle interplay of contrasts and geometric patterns. The right door features a finely crafted bronze lock plate, surmounted by a delicate Louis XV knot, and comes with its chiseled key. The piece exudes a perfect harmony between architectural precision, the warmth of the woods, and decorative refinement, making it an ideal statement piece for a classic interior or a collector’s study.
