Napoleon III Centerpiece Made Of Cut Crystal And Gilded Bronze
A charming Napoleon III-era centerpiece made of cut crystal and gilded bronze.
It consists of a circular crystal bowl richly cut with star and diamond-point motifs, topped by a conical vase also made of cut crystal. The ensemble is held together by an elegant, finely chased gilt-bronze mount decorated with grape clusters, vine tendrils, and foliage, resting on three openwork legs.
The quality of the crystal cutting and the refinement of the setting lend this piece a precious and decorative character typical of tableware from the second half of the 19th century. Originally intended to hold flowers or table arrangements, this centerpiece is now a remarkable decorative object.
French work from the Napoleon III period, circa 1860–1880.
