Jean Labasque was born on August 18, 1896, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris
A student at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, he met André Gide in 1915, who tried to support him, and later contributed to magazines such as L’Ordre nouveau, Esprit, and La Nouvelle Revue française. One of his articles, published in a special issue of the magazine Esprit devoted to money in October 1933, criticized the destructive power of money, which extends to the arts.
In February 1944, he exhibited at the Louis Carré Gallery in Paris
Jean Labasque died on September 5, 1978, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris
