Louis XV-style Chest Of Drawers, Germany/dresden, Circa 1760
A Louis XV chest of drawers with two drawers, carved on all sides, adorned with a framed cube-shaped marquetry panel made of violet wood, rosewood, and blackened pear wood.
The original top is made of Calcatta marble.
The chest of drawers features the characteristic and expressive hardware typical of Saxon court furniture, made of fire-gilded bronze.
In terms of furniture design, the Dresden court drew inspiration from the Parisian fashion of the time. The furniture closely resembles the creations of Parisian artisans. However, it differs from comparable pieces in one key respect: these pieces are primarily made of softwood, and the quality of the exotic woods does not match that found in Paris. Nevertheless, this chest of drawers displays high-quality craftsmanship, and the marquetry is precise and refined.
This chest of drawers has retained its original patina, as evidenced by the warm brown hue of the wood, which is more reminiscent of walnut and fruitwood species.
The bronze fittings are of excellent quality, but their design still reflects the Regency period.
