Desk Made Of Burl Cedar, Italy, Circa 1900
A flat desk veneered in thuja burl, resting on eight tapered square legs fitted with brass feet and featuring five drawers. The top is covered in cognac-colored leather and features sliding side extensions that allow the desk to be extended to a total length of 251.5 cm (99 inches). Of particular note are the gilded bronze fittings in the shape of dragonflies and butterflies that adorn the drawer fronts and are also found on the back. The shallow drawer located between the legs is decorated with an inlaid figurative mythological scene. The desk has been carefully restored and hand-polished. The drawers retain their original interior layout, with lockable compartments and removable boxes.
