Wedgwood Jasperware Commemorative Bowl – Liverpool – Allegorical Emblems

Artist: Wedgwood

Rare Wedgwood Jasperware Commemorative Bowl – Liverpool – Allegorical Emblems – Made in England

An elegant commemorative Jasperware porcelain cup from the prestigious English manufacturer Wedgwood, crafted in its famous sky-blue hue, emblematic of the company’s neoclassical pieces.

The central design, finely executed in white relief, is organized around a rich and symbolic allegorical composition in three parts:

The center of the composition features three symbolic emblems finely executed in white relief. On the left is a nude figure representing Neptune, holding a trident in his right hand and a flag in his left, with the inscription “DEUS NOBIS”, evoking classical iconography inspired by maritime power and ancient tradition.

In the center is a pelican carrying a tree branch—a traditional symbol of charity and sacrifice—accompanied below by the inscription “H/EC”, which defines the main axis of the composition.

On the right is a hybrid figure representing a half-man, half-fish blowing a trumpet with his left hand and holding a flag in his right hand, accompanied by the motto “ OTIA FECIT”, reinforcing the allegorical and heraldic character of the whole.

The composition rests on the inscription “LIVERPOOL”, identifying the city associated with this symbolic and commemorative design.

The border is richly adorned with an elegant relief garland composed of vine leaves and bunches of grapes, a classic motif of neoclassical iconography evoking abundance, prosperity, and ancient tradition.

The refined contrast between the matte blue background and the white reliefs highlights the finesse of the craftsmanship and Wedgwood’s exceptional expertise in the art of jasperware.

The reverse bears the incised mark “Wedgwood – Made in England”, guaranteeing its authenticity.
