Jacques Pouchain, Glazed Ceramic Vase With Stylized Floral Design, 20th Century
Glazed ceramic vase by Jacques Pouchain (1927–2015), rectangular in shape, featuring a stylized floral design.
The glaze combines shades of pink, blue, brown, and black, with effects of drips, oxidation, and textural depth. The design, which blends botanical motifs with abstraction, is part of Pouchain’s exploration of color, clay, and form.
Trained in architecture and later attending the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Jacques Pouchain settled in the Drôme region in the early 1950s. After working at the Coursange pottery in Le Poët-Laval, he established his own studio in Dieulefit in 1959, where he developed a body of work combining utilitarian pottery and art ceramics.
