Bronze Wall Sconce And Barometer, Louis XV Style—19th Century
Mid-19th-century French wall sconce in the Louis XV/Rococo Revival style, made of gilded bronze, also known as “ormolu.” The volutes, the two chimera or griffin heads framing the dial, the urn at the top, and the cartouche at the bottom are typical of the Rococo style. The dial is white enamel with blue Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. The hands are made of gilded brass, openwork, and intricately crafted.
The wall-mounted clock was attached directly to the wall, without a console.
The clock is accompanied by a Napoleon III-style wall-mounted aneroid barometer in gilded bronze, 19th century.
The dial features the text “BREVETÉ S.G.D.G” in the center and “Célestin Gaud...” at the bottom. - Célestin Gaudron was a renowned Parisian barometer manufacturer in the 19th century.
