Julien Ducorron (1770–1849) View Of A City Waterfront With A Fortified Tower And Boats

Oil on panel, signed J. Ducorron.

A charming, lively urban scene depicting a canal or river lined with old buildings, dominated by an imposing fortified tower. In the foreground, a few figures engaged in fishing and other river activities bring life and scale to the scene. The soft light, the delicate reflections on the water, and the atmospheric rendering of the sky perfectly illustrate Julien Ducorron’s talent for landscapes and picturesque views.

A student of Balthasar Ommeganck and director of the Ath School of Drawing from 1819 onward, Ducorron is known for his serene landscapes, situated at the transition between classical tradition and Romantic sensibility. His works were widely exhibited and awarded prizes in Belgium and northern France.

A beautiful work characteristic of the artist, presented in its original gilded wood frame.
