Historic Venice – Hotel Danieli, Riva Degli Schiavoni And The Lagoon, C. 1890-1905
Large photographic print mounted on card.
This view depicts the Riva degli Schiavoni with the Hotel Danieli, housed in the historic Palazzo Dandolo. The image records one of Venice’s most celebrated waterfronts at the turn of the twentieth century, preserving details that have since disappeared or changed significantly: original wooden landing stages, traditional boats moored along the quay, and a lagoon front still dominated by oar-powered traffic.
The broad composition brings together some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, from the Hotel Danieli to the domes of Santa Maria della Salute in the background, offering a valuable glimpse of Venice before the transformations of the twentieth century.
