Pitchers made of pewter, with a shoulder, truncated conical body, a cup-shaped base, and a thumb ring with tassels.
Hallmark: Crowned C / ARC (EN) BAROIS / 1693.
Roch BOURCIER’s hallmark: phoenix / R.B / 1693.
Height: 21.8 cm.
ARC-EN-BARROIS, Very late 17th or early 18th century

In good condition and bearing very legible hallmarks; however, a repair on the shoulder is noted and indicated in one of the photos. This repair locally affects the turned fluting on the shoulder.
A pitcher of the utmost rarity, the only example found in half a century …Recent archival research has identified this master, born in 1667, married in 1691 (and 1692), and deceased shortly before 1721. Note that at the time of his first marriage in 1691, he is already referred to as a master.
These pitchers were the official wine measures of the Ancien Régime; the calibration of those used in public places, taverns, and drinking establishments had to be checked regularly.
