Jean-Jacques Haffner was a watercolorist, architecture professor, and French architect, born on June 17, 1885, in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines and died on March 20, 1961, in Paris.

He was a student of Laloux at the École des Beaux-Arts, graduating on November 13, 1918. 
He enlisted as a volunteer under the name “Potier,” served as a Sergeant in the Engineers, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre during World War I (1914–1918); he was decorated with the Legion of Honor in 1923
In 1919, he entered the Prix de Rome for architecture; the subject was the “Palace for the League of Nations in Geneva,” and he received the “First Grand Prix de Rome” alongside Jacques Carlu.
He was a professor of architecture at Harvard from 1922 to 1936. He made several crossings between France and the United States during this period, in 1922 on the Rochambeau, and in 1923 and 1924 on the Lafayette.
He was a member of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) from 1924 to 1936 and an honorary member since 1959, and a member of the Society of Watercolor Painters in Boston in 1929.
He served as architect of the Louvre from January 1944 to December 1952, and Chief Architect of Civil Buildings and National Palaces.
In 1921, an exhibition of watercolors and gouaches was held at the “Artes” gallery, 8 rue Tronchet in Paris.
In 1932 at the Grace Horne Gallery in Boston.
