Born on 29.11.1778 in Brienz and died on 24.10.1861 in Habkern. Stähli was first a goatherd, he was then trained by a painter from Brienz. In 1806 he participated in the Zurich Salon. 1807, was sent to Rome with the painter J.-G. Vollmar to improve his training. 1809: he returns to Switzerland. Until the end of the 1820s, worked in German-speaking Switzerland; then leaves for Geneva. Watercolorist and landscape painter. He also works in the canton of Vaud and Chamonix. The Pictet family from Geneva financed a trip to England and Scotland.
